We believe there are a few reasons...
The Genuine Article
Our heart's desire here is to be genuine. As we talk to people, one of the things we often hear about professing Christians is that many of them are hypocrites (perhaps you’ve heard or thought the same thing). With all our hearts we do not want to be fake! We emphasize being real in our struggles, in our lifestyle, and in our faith.
Pleasure Isn't All Bad
We really want to be pleasing...which, I'm sure needs some explanation. By "pleasing" we first mean that we seek to please our God above all else. We believe that the chief goal in everyone’s life ought to be to glorify God, love, and serve Him. "Pleasing" also means that we are concerned about loving others just as God is.
Scripture is All Good
Here at Midway we strive to be scriptural. We believe that the Christian cannon of scripture is inerrant (or without error), authoritative (for every person), and sufficient (to direct us, to grow us in the faith, and to teach us about God). Because we believe these truths about scripture, we look to scripture to guide us in every way:
- In defining church. Scripturally, the local Church is to be a place where the lost can find a restored relationship with God through Jesus, but it is primarily a place where the "saints can be equipped for the work of ministry." - In our beliefs. Our beliefs are not based on tradition, legalism, or denominational orthodoxy, but we first look to scripture, rightly interpreted (for a brief example of our doctrinal beliefs click on www.sbc.net/bfm/bfm2000.asp).
- In our preaching and teaching. Who cares what a man has to say? We want God’s word. After all, it alone is inerrant, authoritative, and sufficient. Because of this conviction we practice biblical expository preaching and teaching.
People are All-Important
Relevance isn't God, but God is relevant, and here at Midway we strive to be relevant to those around us in need. What good is a church or a sermon if it isn’t applicable to real life? We strive to meet real needs with the truth of God’s word and the love of Christ.
